In the last couple of weeks, I posted some open seeks. Three games were started, then almost immediately aborted by the person accepting the open seek. No reason was given. Does this happen to anyone else? I find this very annoying. So my question to chess.com members: richycharles, steeve, & murrayryane, why did you accept my open seek then abort the game almost immediately?

Doesn't really bother me.  Mostly new members if it happens, in my case.  Just post another open seek and you'll get another game pretty quick.  The only game I aborted was one where the opponent posted a bunch of unprovoked swear words in the message box before any moves were made.  Disabling chat would have been my other option.

Perhaps the person decided against playing. A number of reasons could be valid.

Probably not very helpful calling them out on the forum either. There's enough members here willing to play that you don't need to do so,

I only abort games when my opponent times out.  I'll play against anyone, anytime.  Or if I want a certain skill level, I post the game with a rating qualification.  I don't know why someone would pick up a game and then abort it, but I can see there may have been a reason for it.  Or not.  No big deal though.

Perhaps they didn't realize how much time you set for the game. I've accepted seeks to games with a 1 day timer then aborted them when i realized.  It can definitely be irritating but there's certainly no shortage of people willing to play and any new seeks will get accepted pretty soon. the point is -  don't take it personally, it happens.

It never happened to me but I hate it already "beggers can't be chosers" does that reming you of anything? I take what I get because if you ask for a game you shuld acept it just because you "don't want to get on daily" to bad no one cares gritt your teeth and get on with it because if you don't you look like a jerk no one cares about geting on daily but they do if your a jerk no one will care 14 per turn? thinking they will take forever WHO CARES! that is a few ar the things that REALLY make me angry and I don't get angry a lot

If you have a seek and someone places a seek you may be auto-paired.  Maybe they didn't like your rating, your game history, or the time controls.

I was autopaired against someone who had "Americans are stupid" in their profile, I came close to aborting, but I thought I'd teach him a lesson (I lost though).

On another site that I play on, yesterday I put 10 open seeks in at once and one person accepted all of them.  I thought that was somewhat rude, so i aborted all of two of them.

Live chess or correspondence?  I think that the open seeks match in live chess, so if you start one without a rating restriction, you might match with a sub-1200 rated player who also didn't enter a rating restriction and they quickly decide they don't want to play someone with your rating.  I've experienced it a number of times there, but not so much in correspondence.

Who cares? If your feelings are bruised so easily, play someone else.
