Does the openings explorer count as a database for the purposes of turn-based chess? I sometimes use it as a resource because I find the win/draw/loss stats very interesting. I don't use it as a crutch, but sometimes I will see a move that has a higher winning percentage and decide to see how it plays out rather than use what I'd normally play.
I went to look at it today to study up on the English opening and wondered if that would be considered cheating according to chess.com rules. Seems a little late to wonder that, I know, but today was the first day I actually put some thought into it.
So, is it against the rules?
nope, perfectly acceptable for turn based chess.
Here are the rules for playing - http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=17&nav=0,6
Aha! Cool. The FAQ I read didn't specifically mention games explorer so I wasn't sure if that counted as a database in chess.com eyes. But that link clears it up, thanks!
I read the rule in the link Patzer provided. What's the difference between a Tablebase and a Database?
