I had an idea for a site feature and wanted to know what people think.

Under opening explorer you can see your statistics for wins-losses-draws after certain moves. While this is a valuable and fun feature, I think it would be further beneficial if one could set the statistics for players above, below, and between rating points.

For example, if I am playing a player who is rated 2050, it would be very beneficial to me to see how my stats look for a certain position against players, say, between 2000-2100.

Besides opening explorer, I believe this would be a valuable tool in ones personal player stats, as you can evaluate your play against whatever rating range you wish.

Of course, this would be based on a players rating at the conclusion of a certain game, and would have nothing to do with that players current rating.

Just a thought.

That sounds like a good idea to me.  The only problem is that there might some inaccurate data around a rating of 1200.

True. And perhaps it would be a good idea to be able to further make a subset by putting a minimum games played option.

the problem with this is that calculating the stats for game explorer is incredibly intensive and cannot be done on-the-fly :(

I figured as much. The simplist human idea can transform into a technical nightmare with computers involved.

Always remember: Statiscics are like a bikini, what they reveal is interesting, what they conceal is vital :)
