the point of anything is the precise location of something; a spatially limited location

I noticed this the other day, & it kind of surprised me. I agree with you guys that this is very weird that this person is a master rated player, but chose to use her name. This is identity theft - intriguing indeed. Now the question is: how did chess.com find out?

here's the full story:

we got an application for a new WGM. i looked at the documents and they looked suspicious, so i started to investigate more. this person was supposed to be from china, but they were accessing our site from Canada. i was then sure they were fake. so i checked other members in the area to see who it could be and.... they matched with "rusudan" (the fake). i was really confused! so then i went back and looked at the documents they had sent - same kind of thing. then i reached out to the real Rusudan through her chess academy (the Westchester Chess Academy) and talked with her business partner. he confirmed that the real WGM Rusudan had never played on Chess.com. i then closed the account. i spoke with the real Rusudan on the phone this morning about it - no hard feelings of course. i asked her if she would be interested in becoming active on chess.com - possibly, but she's really busy :)

that's the scoop! we have since gone back through our titled players to review their information and are confident that they are all legit.

it's sad there are people out there that have weird needs for attention no matter the consequences.

so... the fake would probably have not been found anytime soon if they hadn't tried to make a new account?

Sorta dumb from their part...

thats a real shame, some people are idiots, i presume it was a program then?

It doesnt make chess.com look bad only the person who did it.

P.S. what i really would like to know is how many members proposed to her/it/him in the past 12 months :-) come on own up ....lol

If not Rusa ....then he/she was Russian because she/he was able to read the Russian text sent ...even in live games.  I thought she was the person she claimed to be ....even in some of the articles she wrote....wow.   just can't believe it!

And is Batgirl really batgirl or someone who just thought it was a catchy callsign?

I feel cheapened somehow

This is sad.

This fake Rusolan Goletiani accused some time ago my internet friend Fiends of cheating. Fiends account was closed after some investigation. And now is discovered that "Rusolan" was cheating herself. Who can we trust nowadays?

Erik, I have an idea:

next time a GM wants an account not only ask them to send his/her Fide GM Certificate but also to record a 10 seconds video saying that he/she want to join chess.com and send the video file to you. Then you can compare their looks with the photograph on the Fide website.

Thx for your detail explanation, erik! You made a mistake before for not verifiing acounts of alleged people with FIDE titles. Unfortunatelly, without hard consequences.

However, it's still a mistery who was fake Rusa - it's a lot of evidence that it is realy a player of master level. I am not so angry at him/her, I am more curious. Surprised I played a game with him/here and even sent it with coments in the forum here:  A strugle for the center (learn from Rusa Goletiani!). It need not be erased - it was an  interesting game! Erik, maybe you can change the title - erase "learn from Rusa Goletiani"?

exactly. When I proposed that the account be allowed to remain, I had lydia's posts in mind mainly.
