Chess.com uses a very different rating system than the one you are used to. The Glicko attempts to very quickly establish your rating and therefore it has quite large swings in the beginning. It will settle down in a few dozen games. For a more profound explanation, I invite you to search for Glicko RD (for rating deviation, I think) in Google, Search Forums, or Help & Support.

No problem, glad to help. I once Googled it and naturally some math guy had a Wiki article on it with all the formulas. One look and I decided the actual workings would have to remain a mystery.
