I am fairly new to chess.com, but i find it excruciatingly irritating when, after 1-5 moves, my opponent retires.

does any one else have any experience with this???

why join the game if you are just going to resign after 1-5 moves??? what is the point???

if i join a game, i fully intend on completing it (the only exception is 1 time out, and that was an accident!).

can any one offer an explanation for this???

If you're opponent resign after 5 moves you should be grateful, anything more than 4 moves in and you're awarded the points. : )

Looking at your games, you just appear to have been unlucky.

What I normally do before I accept a challenge is look at their history and profile before accepting.  Not fool proof, but a good indicator!

i see what you are saying, but i want to earn the points because i beat my opponent, not because they resigned after 4 moves.

also, it has a negative effect on my stats, because they do not accurately refect my ability.

it's just not the way i want to win.

i start the game because i want to play it.

    Hey Quadnip.

In my experience (mainly on other websites and the live play option here), people resign that early when they don't recognise the opening, they have made a mistake early on, or they tried to set a trap which you have sen through / bypassed.

It seems to me that these players' entire game plan is based on one particular move sequence in the opening, and when their oppenent deviates from it, they quit...

You wholly right to say it is frustrating and infuriating, but wouldn't see the points you gain as not reflecting your ability, as (and this is just a bit of positive spin), chances are you were going to win that game anyway ;)

I'll happily play you for a full game - just let me know when you want to get started.
