Resigning

Something puzzles me about the software here (maybe it's just something I don't understand).  The "Offer Draw" and "Resign" buttons only appear when it's the other guy's move.  For "Offer Draw", this seems to make sense, since the rules of the game provide for offering a draw only when the other player is to move (though in practice, this is often ignored).  But shouldn't you be allowed to resign if it's your move?  In "in person" games, players generally do resign when it's their move, and I've never heard of anybody objecting to their opponent resigning! This is especially confusing to new users here, since to resign you need to make some move, then immediately press the Resign button.  Or am I missing something obvious?
