Resume adjourned games

In the near future, will it be possible to resume a game after being disconnected?

    Is it in the works?

That is my hope. Here is how I think it would work:

We would adjourn the game. You then would see that game at the top of your SEEKS list any time your opponent is online. You can't start a new game if your opponent is online and you have a pending adjourned game. If, after 7 days your game is not finished we would do computer analysis on it and adjudicate it as a win or loss if more than +2 to either side and a draw if less.

    Thoughts? :)

    Erik,

That would be a lot better than just getting disconnected with no way to finish a game.  The only change I would suggest is that the adjudication not necessarily be automatic after 7 days.  There could be extenuating circumstances such as vacation time, etc.  I would wait at least 7 days, and then adjudicate if either player complains about not being able to finish the game.

It seems like a good idea for people who legit get disconnected however the problem I see with it is that this system could be abused in order to gain more time to think about the position.

Just @ the end of a 1 min blitz game my opponent conveniently (for him) disconnects.

He is back online and his live game archive shows he has played another game.

Near the seek I see a resume option but he doesn't respond.

He also doesn't respond when i try and hit the chat (Shame?)

I know you have good intentions but people are going to abuse this and it shouldn't be a strategy for chess.

Certainly when blitz chess is involved.

What is you need some time to think?

An analysis is likely to show he is ahead esp if you factor your time time.

I really hope I don't have to deal with people pulling chump stunts all the time.

    Thanks for listening

I would rather have my rating drop b/c of a disconnect

But doesn't it count as a resign when the window is closed (which is an automatic disconnect)?

Here's how this system doesn't work:  I just played a guy and towards the end game I go a pawn up and it's obvious that's going to be the deciding factor...  He disconnects.

I'm 1 pawn up, I'll win that game 90% of the time from that position and I'm guessing I'll never see him again.  How is that fair and how won't it ruin the entire scoring system?

Just seems like I'll get robbed out of dozens of points almost every week
