I had to make an announcement on the various music websites and my band webpages, reagrding where I've been the last month. While everyone on chess.com knows about my now bearly finished fight with cancer, everyone in the music community (with the exception of a few close friends) had no idea about my health issues. So I made the announcement, after the fact (so to speak). Since I got a lot of emails about what I've been doing during my recovery, I took the opportunity to tell people involved in the music scene about chess.com. I told people about how this site saved my sanity during my treatments. Follow up emails from musicians (many of them heavy hitters from a few well known bands) expressed an interest in chess.com. Guys I have worked with, toured with and have known for a long time mentioned their interest in chess. I would never have known that some of these folks were chess players. So don't be surprised if a few more musicians suddenly sign up with chess.com.
We are currently putting together a musician's chess league here in San Francisco and will be using a couple of nightclubs to meet once a month to start. Anyone interested, just let me know. You don't have to be a musician to join, just have an interest in music. It's great to have chess.com to use as an introduction to a good chess site for these guys, since many of them have never considered getting involved in online chess. I am proud to be able to be part of such a great site. I spend more time here than I do on the music pages I'm involved with. I actually enjoy the people here since I haven't met anyone who is like some of the music snobs I find on other websites. Thankfully, everyone is helpful and social here. So let's spread the good word about chess.com!!
Well said, Hugh!
I come from the birthplace of heavy metal music - the Black Country, near Birmingham, England. Rob Halford of Judas Priest used to live just the other side of town from me, and I went to the same school as Noddy Holder of Slade.
Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Magnum and lots of other bands used to frequent this area back in the 60's and 70's...
Consider me officially a headbanger
