most of us have been there--playing a stronger player and you're clearly winning...  so the stalling starts...  the chat gets turned off...  with an hour or 2 left on their 3 days per move clock your opponent comes on to make the move (although they spend hours on end logged in.)  forget those who don't say GG at the end and HI to start a game, the biggest example of dick-ish-ness on chess.com is stalling.

all that being said, i'm more embarrassed for my opponent right now than anything.  with the game clearly in hand, i can just sit back and watch him flail...  i love it.

winds me up as well Mark, especially when I quit when it's obvious I can't win and play fast, no one has to wait for points with me, it's a matter of honour

it is pretty funny on some level BUT it's more funny in an embarrassing way than a traditionally funny way.

there may not be a general answer but i wonder what is going through these people's heads.

are they thinking that they'll show me!  i can only imagine--

"i'll show this jerk for beating me!  i'll slow way down.  ha HA!"

We need to put these low lifes on a list and handle them the way sex offenders are treated. Neighbors of these people must be informed by law of the vermin they're living next to.

may be they think that the opponent will resign for slow game,  or are they scared that their rating will go down(it is too late now to think about that!)? I don't know the point because they will still lose so why do that?.... I get a lot of this players Yell

Yeah I was just expressing a feeling in hyperbolic sarcasm. I think they should be rooted out and booted out. This is as offensive to me as cheating.

I've got one game (5 days per move) right now that I've already finished (with conditional moves)..

I expect my opponent will play with himself another two weeks or so.  :)

Just start some new games and dont think to much about your stupid opponent, that game is won so be happy! You can't save the world on your own, and you can't make stupid people less stupid.

oh i agree, but i think it's worth calling people out for being dicks.  i'm not trying to reform the guy and i certainly have moved on, but it's still worth mentioning.

Actually we can make the world a better place with just a simple policy change. For example, take some of the staff here that are fervently policing the chatroom and instead put some of them on an anti-stalling task force. There's an elephant in the room and they're worried about the fly.
