I remember reading "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand back in the fifties. I also read "Animal Farm" by George Orwell around the same time.
Put me down as a capitalist...apparently becoming an extinct minority here. I was raised quite poor. But whatever I've accomplished in life came from motivation, goal setting and plenty of hard work.
I do believe that we should help the truly disabled...those that can't physically or mentally work. But, we've become a nation where about 50% of the population doesn't pay taxes, 47 million are on food stamps, about 30 million of working age are on social security disability, etc.
This "something for nothing" attitude is sinking us.
And, if the OP wants premium features...try something novel and pay for them.
People are always coming out against food stamps and social security disability and welfare and so forth. But I have noticed that no one ever says anything against the banks and corporations that have been given billions of dollars by the USGOV because they are too big to fail. Not only are they too big to fail they are too crooked to fail.
On the contrary, I hear a lot more people complaining about Wall Street and that kind of stuff than people on welfare who shouldn't be.
@ TheGambitKing and others like him: Bottom line is, if you don't live in the US, then you shouldn't be telling us what to do. Americans are capable of thinking for themselves and making our own political decisions, thank you.
And, I will probably be dead within 5 to 10 years.
Aw, c'mon Gramps, nowadays nobody needs to die anymore from such a trivial incision like a simple kidney stone surgery, you'll be just fine!
---> Americans: in charge of telling others that they better not tell Americans what to do, and that includes not telling them what they SHOULDN'T do, either...
---> Americans: violating Geneva Convention rights via interrogation of 'war criminals',
I agree with you on a lot of these, but terrorist leaders aren't even war criminals. They are not participating in an officially waged war. Perhaps the closest status would be 'pirate'. As such, according to the laws of nations, they can be hung (!) without trial.
Chess GG is in the John Birch Society.
I dunno, but I heard somewhere that an extensive diet of raw vegetables and unskimmed goat milk might reduce the risk of kidney stones by up to 33% !!!
I'll be praying for you, pal, a nephrolithotomy should never be taken lightly, despite all the recent advancements in Modern medicine.
I better stop teasing him now, I should know better. After all, isn't it stated in the Holy Writ:
Now this thread covers everything: Politics, religion, some remarks about Chess as well, slinging insults at each other ... I bet it'll be closed in the next 24 hours. But I'm crossing my fingers!
If you have kidney stones I suggest you look into alternative medical treatment before you let the doctors butcher you up. I seem to remember that you can pass a kidney stone if you drink lemon juice mixed with olive oil, but you should check it out on the internet before you try it at home.
I don't know what all this talk about kidney stones is all about (except inane stupidity and idleness), but I've already had my share of kidney stones and gall stones...and serious surgery in both cases. No...no...this is something for you young uns to face.
But, I do have some other serious health issues related to old age, including the big C. Now, I suppose you imbeciles do actually have something to mock me with. Have a good laugh. Commie bastards!
Hey, cheer up, maybe I'll even mow your lawn some time! :)
Neither of us is a Commie Bastard, as you put it so nicely, but you just seem to be one of the regular kind.
Ha ha ha! I am actually in a library, and laughed out loud, disturbing some individuals.
What are you doing at 3AM in a library? (You are right now in Belgium, correct?)
I'm 71, my mother and older brother died of cancer but I do not have cancer myself. I always use alternative health products whenever possible. I know that people my age take lots of medications, I do not take any medications and do not see doctors. For cancer both to prevent and cure I suggest you try broccoli and broccoli sprouts. I suggest you check out mercola.com. He has a video about alternative cancer cures. I followed his advice and reduced the amount of bread I eat and I have lost 25 pounds.
No one is laughing at your health problems. And I used to be interested in Marxist Leninism but I now see that they did not take into consideration biological factors and their way of thinking is therefore unscientific. The point I have been trying to make is that regardless of the economic system you believe it, communism, capitalism, Keynsian economics, Austrican economics or whatever, it is all futile. It is all vanity.
I love broccoli! A broccoli cure for anything sounds yummy!
Cures everything but flatulence.
Well, DrFrank124c, thanks for your kind regards.
And, yes there has been imbecilic mockery (just read back a page or two) especially by the self-admittedly lazy, free-loader, commie bastard OP (who shall remain nameless).
That aside, I do not believe that I requested your medical opinion. Nor do I see that you are an M.D. So, thanks for all your broccoli sprouts advice. But, I am under very competent medical care by my M.D. and a specialist M.D. I will bring your sage thoughts to their attention, as a suggestion, next time I see them.
Also, I am pleased as punch that you are now disillusioned about Marxism. I think this is "for the better". And, I do agree that much in life is futile. However, I must inform you that technological advances in life have been so remarkable that I should have been dead on at least six occasions if I hadn't benefitted by science (as opposed to myths and superstions).
Well, I must go play some chess. I have over 60 games awaiting (here and elsewhere). Meanwhile, I suppose I gave the contentious lumricoid who is the OP more food to masticate and vomit.
But, I must go take care of other battles!
You're a bitter, old hypocrite. My granddad nearly died as a POW in a Communist death camp, and you piece of (well, you know the word yourself) call me a Commie bastard. If you'd be a Nazi, everyone who you don't like is a 'Jew bastard', if you'd be from North Korea, I'd be an 'Imperialist bastard', ... perhaps you untracked from this thread, so you're not going to read this, but if you are, you are like the rudest person I've encountered so far since I registered. I even contemplated to report you, because I feel actually really offended by your words, ... guess you had success with your joyous, little acid spraying. Hell, maybe you're not even real and just pose as an old asshole for shit and giggles. If any mod reads this, he is welcomed to close this thread, I've had my portion of gall for today.
"Communist utopia".... an oxymoron right up there with "military intelligence" and "deafening silence".
The title was of a sarcastic nature ... I wondered if people took the game of Chess more seriously than I do, by actually taking advantage of the features this site would have to offer to them. And then GK came along and an otherwise trite thread topic erupted into a heated political debate. I never wanted that people get angry at each other, just hearing some few other takes on this subject from the other posters and then let the thread die. Ironically, this thing is the most popular thread I ever posted on Chess.com yet, and at the same time I would like it to be closed. What Chess_gg seems to be oblivious about is that it happened many times before that members asked for a thread closure and a mod did the favor for them ... but he just took a huge shit in here and left, as he graciously elaborated.
