I have a theory that the decrease in traffic in the forums is inversely proportional to the growth of groups (see Group Hysteria).

I think it is actually due to a new phenomenon called forum fatigue.  Believe me as a long term member, it is just impossible to have a life and to continue to scan/contribute to the forums here, they are just too dynamic!!

I have seen so many people rise like a Phoenix only to die within a few months, then come back again etc..

It is just the natural way of things!

Summer break is when the forums are at their worst.  Far too many kids using the place like facebook or twitter or whatever.

Depends on what you are looking for I suppose!

At their worst? No... They will be spending their time here, in the chess sanctuary. : )

Indeed, so true.

But!, some posts make us laugh, some make us think, some just simply annoy.  To get back to the point of the originator of this topic, it depends what you are looking for!

The reason I stay and support this site is because every day i see posts that take me through the whole gamut of possible responses.

We have great posters, Batgirl, Likeforests, Retguvvie, Reb, etc, funny posters, Rael, Timmylivinalie, Pistoleer, Kingwilliam, annoying posters, Rich, Rich, Rich, but the point is, it's all here and all the others in between!!!!

If the forums are to come " back to life", then that power rests in each of our hands, so make it so!

Some people think the forums are not active enough?  They seem pretty vibrant to me.  Perhaps it's that most of the threads are about chess, instead of focused on the attention-whoring trolls who got themselves banned.
