Not been using this site for long, but am finding that too many opponents do not complete the game; whilst the game is awarded to me as time is exceeded, this is purely a waste of my time, and I am becoming reluctant to set other games on.

I wish players would finish the games they start, and be more respectful.

Yes. I for one doesnt want to win due to timeouts. other players should be more civil and considerate.

Most of the players here do finish their games. If you want to be more sure that you're playing someone who will stick around until the end of the game, try playing players who have already finished some games, so players rated other than 1200. New members start at 1200, and most players who time-out are new members who just come here once to check out the site (and start a few games) and then leave again.

that's weird - i have had VERY FEW timeouts. also, yeah, look at their stats before you play - you can see if they have any timeouts :)

If you set the game time to 3 or more days it will happen less. some people work and forget some may have more personnel problems.

IN most cases you will enjoy a nice game and help grow the site while only exposing yourself to disappointment once.

That just happened to me and it's not satisfying. I managed to convert a winning position into one that was not hopeless, but where I was probably going to lose and the other guy lost on time. I wasn't in such a position that I should have resigned (so I didn't), but it's not fair on my opponent for him to have lost on time. Should there be some way of 'stopping the clock' in that situation, where I could recognise that I don't deserve to win on time and put the game on hold until the other person is back?
