Timing out

Why force a timeout when it should be up to the person waiting for the opponent to move to make the choice.  Claiming the win should be a choice, not a forced win.  Especially if the game is one I would like to see continued.  Not always are circumstances such that a move can be made in a timely manner.  But stopping a game because my opponent had computer failure or is involved in a car accident seems a bit callous.  I like giving my opponent at little time to respond to an alert so the game may proceed or resign if they wish.
