Many players hide their true name. Others are more open about it and have written their true name on their profile page. Knowing someone's true name gives you the option of searching the players Fide-card or search information about his/her over the board chess activity and level.

What do you think. Should everyones true name be openly visible on chess.com?

No. There are some players, including myself, who are young and do not wish to do so.

Although, many people would appreciate it if some poeple <cough> Cheater_1 <cough> did reveal their name

only if they choose to.  i think that the only necessary info is first name and place you live.  more is too much.

hmm, well if you put your name up on a website, then you're just a quick google away for any potential employers.  Bad news if you like trolling on the internets, or potentially even if you don't, because most context will be lost, and it can be hard enough to tell jokes from insults in written english anyway.  Also, it could be weird if people irl recognise you on a website.  Maybe on the website they think you're a complete arse, and then realise they know you irl!
