To all of the members of chess.com who have served in the military, and especially the Armed Forces of the United States, I want to personally thank you for your service to our country. Your sacrifices and commitment to duty stand as an example to us all, and we honor you always, but especially today. Are there other chess-playing veterens out there, active duty or retired?   I served from Vietnam to Iraq (1970 to 1995) with the Air Force and was always able to play chess wherever I was assigned, at a USO or base (Beale, Kadena AB, Andersen AB, U Tapao AB, Udorn RTAFB, Eielson, Kelly, Wright-Pat, Onizuka, Clark AB, Moffett Field, Heidelburg, USS Coronado).

Though I have to admit, at least with my situation today only makes me regret the short length of my service more. I should be in Afghanistan with my brothers right now.

I grew up in a military family and ended up becoming a Buddhist. However, I respect anyone who believes in something strongly enough to put their lives on the line. This is an important day for those who have served and who serve. On a side note, my father was a Marine Core Drill Instructor and his proudest day was me playing hockey and spending most of my tie in the penalty box for fighting. Bill Wall is really cool. Man what a writer!
