A spam thread is one where folks post only to increase their post count, not to have a meaningful discussion.

I'm pretty sure that spam is used as an acronym for stupid pointless annoying messages. So a thread titled BEST MOST DIFFICULT PUZZLE EVER!!! and then the post just says chess is dumb, gotcha is what I would consider a spam thread.
