Don't worry, the screenshots were fine. I agree shah.
But Nimzo, screenshots are a much stronger form of evidence. Copy and paste is just text and you can far too easily change text. Also, links to pages don't work if the moron offender goes on a deletion rampage before the staff member gets to see anything.
@BorgQueen: It isn't really all too difficult to rig a .jpg with photoshop. I'd definetely go with the link; you never know what the good people of chess.com keep in their cache :)
@ OP: Leaving notes on the neerdowells wall makes me think of drunk sheriffs and hip held sixshooters (shooting blanks) - just leave it out and go tell the nearest grown up. And try not to worry too much about the little hickups; you're bound to run into anti social behaviour, after all, this IS the internet.
It's a lot harder to fake a screenshot than it is to edit text.
As I said, a screenshot is a lot stronger form of evidence. Not conclusive because of the photoshop possibility, but it is far far better than copy and paste of text.
they're both shit forms of evidence that is all
The minute I've uncorked, I'll be drinking to that.
Heheh... here here! I'll drink to that as well.
Pity there isn't something more concrete. It's all good if the abuser doesn't go deleting.
Have you tried the stealth-excreta response? If you're serious and put in the hard work, once you master your eye-vent coordination then its simply altitude, a high fibre diet and I guarantee you the message delivered will not be soon forgotten!
Or you could just get a bit of perspective on the whole thing. Yes we all agree that its not right but, really, sport: somebody you've never met, never will meet; somebody who lives on the other side of the world slags off at you over a game, and this is your reaction ? Maybe, yes, it's annoying and "rude" ( in dangerous cyberspace pixels ) - and he's a bloody sore winner to boot - or maybe, even, he/she/it/they/whatever doesn't actually exist !!Perhaps you should realise that people might be "rude" or "offensive" but reacting in such a -frankly- hysterical and precious manner is a choice not worth the effort. And just look how easily one can whip up otherwise reasonable people into paroxysms of OTT behaviour -as winessed above. But if you want to call out the Gestapo, gather screenshots of evidence and then dob-in this person(?) to The Authorities for offending your pure self then thats your choice. And anyway, dobbing people in is becoming the Australian Way.I myself am off for a quick wing around the neighbourhood and then I might enjoy a few nuts and berries and a game of chess.
I can't say I agree at all with timbeau. This is a common way of defending/excusing/shielding bullying in real life and online. You're supposed to think perhaps you're weak for being able to recognise poor conduct and prepared to do something about it. To my mind, the weakness is in falling for that trick. Slide, I say you should disregard timbeau's comments here.
Hysterical and precious manner? I hardly see how. I have no qualms with taking five minutes of my time to draw attention to the actions of a player such as this. I would hardly claim that what my opponent was doing was emotionally scarring or any such thing like it, but nonetheless, it was rude, it has occurred on a multitude of occasions with other players, and if "Gathering screenshots of evidence and dobbing in" is what is necessary to make him known to the staff, then I will do that. If you have an issue, and it takes no drastic amount of effort to deal with such an issue, is it wrong, then, to try to solve that issue? I think not. And so, if I meet another player like my opponent for this game, I will now know what my response should be, thanks to the help from others who have commented here, and I will submit a support ticket, and yes! Once again I will take a minute or two to take screenshots, and I will Dob them in.
The Gestapo may provide assistance as they see fit.
My apologies matey- I was forgetting your youth. You go for it if this is such an issue for you !Although you still might consider other options. Ignoring someone completely -and on this sight you can simply 'block' nuisances- denies them whatever it is that they are getting off on. Its effectiive, practical and a bit less heavy handed. Does "rudeness" really deserve a punitive response ?
if this guy is good.fight agains magnus carlsen!!if he is good enough
Ordinarily, I may block a player, but sometimes that doesn't seem effective enough, not when he's done it on several occasions. Surely you can understand that? I've met my share of bad sports on here, yes, and sometimes it seems appropriate to block them, or to ignore them completely and play the game, but seriously, it frustrates me when I see a player doing this. Blocking isn't the solution to everything, because the next time, he'll be playing against a different player, who won't have blocked him.
And what exactly are you meaning to say by "I was forgetting your youth"?
First, my apologies for not responding sooner. ...And that next player may well have a different reaction altogether. Matey, there's just something I find distastesful about the rush to punishment, especially when the punishment called for is the maximum penalty: the total rejection by the group. It seems a bit harsh for language that some find "frustrating" and "rude" yet others aren't particularly fazed by it. I favour that earlier comment of- 'why don't you just pray for the poor fecker'! (Metaphorically that is)Anyway, you've already decided the matter and my nest is calling, so its goodnight from me.Oh, the comment about youth ? You'll get that one for yourself in another forty years or so...
I get it clearly enough.
But seriously, do you think it's fair that I should agree to the opinions of others? That's the whole point of this, I was asking for views on this matter, and I have agreed and disagreed with certain views which have been offered to me. And really, what I've done by 'dobbing in' the player and submitting a support ticket, is allowed chess.com to decide for themselves what should be done. If they decide that he deserves the 'maximum penalty' that's up to them. And if he doesn't get rejected by the group, if nothing at all happens to stop him, then fine by me, I won't complain.
After all, it's not my site, I won't make that decision for them.
