There are 195 generally recognized countries (of course this is completely debatable) but chess.com recognizes some places such as scotland, taiwan, US virgin islands, etc that are normally not counted in the 195 due to the fact that they are often counted as parts of larger countries. This is without going into micro-nations, such as native american reservations.
The excitement is building. Will Chess.com give out a prize like it did for the
1,000,000th member?
