Does anyone feel as bad as me? I just reviewed one of my games, and noticed that I could have had a won game if I just didn't miss that move. Now, the game is unclear and I still have a chance of losing. Ever since I saw that big blunder of mine without computer analysis or help of any kind I feel really bad about this, it's like a voice ghosting through my mind 'HOW COULD YOU HAVE MISSED THAT!'
How do you deal with blunders?
Yea once in live chess {blitz} I made a move, and then realised a moment later that I could of got my opponents Queen with my Knight, and only lose a Knight for a Queen. Totally worth it. It was that bad it made me resign the game. And that is why I hate blitz. No concentration from both sides.
I make many blunders. I learn from my mistakes. I have a chess CPU that helps me. But if I lose because of a blunder, I computer analyse it and see the blunder I've done and look for variations.
If you do a blunder and lose something, you habe to go for the king, sacriface and just hope you'll win, you have a chance that your opponent might miss something, or accidently do a stalemate in the endgame (if you play online, people sometimes disconnect).
First of all, Bermuda, don't take yourself or the game too seriously. It's only internet chess, so don't get carried away. Second, we all make mistakes, they are an unavoidable part of the game. Chess is largely about mistake-management. Even the best players make mistakes, although they are typically very good at avoiding them and/or minimizing their frequency. So get over your mistakes when they occur, as dwelling on them, especially during the game, is counterproductive. This is not to say you shouldn't dwell on them long enough to learn from them - you should - but once the lesson is learned, move on. One other tip: most of my biggest mistakes are unforced errors resulting from playing faster than I need to. Use the time you have and you'll make fewer unforced errors.
I take 2 percocets, usually, and if it's a big blunder , then I may take 3. Then I feeeel good!.
coffee solves all my blunder regrets.
Well, Bermuda, I truly empathize with your situation. I used to encounter this a lot in the endgame. I would have a have an edge going into the endgame, but because the endgame is the weakest part of my overall game, I would make a blunder causing my position to slip from winning to drawish. Sometimes I'd lose, but it's the draws that really infuriate me!
How do I deal with it during the game? I reason to myself, "If I put myself in position to win once, I'll do it again..." Keep plugging forward just like we do in the game of life.
How do I deal with it after the game is over? I have adopted a sharp 'gambitish' style of play; a style where I grab the initiative and hold onto it with a death grip. I realize my need to study the endgame more in depth, but in the meantime I play classically.
i don't really think that if you know your endgame is weak and you lose alot due to this weak part of your game, that you must improve your endgame, I think endgame is the most important part of chess, and if you keep blundering at the endgame, then it seems to me that you need some practice,
On the blunder post, we all make blunders, the stronger player you are the less you make them, or you make smaller blunders, sometimes, you can be in such a position and mindset you don't even realize you have made a blunder, in which this is the best blunder to make, because chess is a mind game, how you feel is how you play, if you beat yourself up about your missed move, you are very likely to miss the next chance and many more opportunities. after a blunder, you need to forget what happened, and focus on the next move, always play the best move,
its all apart of the game , life ;
learn from it ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''\
I am still a chess newbie..and usually my blunders are deep in the end game... literally... I can feel my heart skip a beat as I frantically try to back space or click or randomly hit my keys as I realize what I have done.. usually I catch my blunders the very instant I hit "submit move" making it all the more horrific..
3 out of my last 4 losses can be directly attributed to some real rookie blunders...
it does give me some hope that i can chalk them up as "learning experiances" however which does allow me to sleep better at night
Use the "analysis board" under "Moves" tab. It helps a lot :)
Perhaps this is what people mean by 'learning from your mistakes'. If it didn't happen we wouldn't learn so much.
I have many, too many, occasions for anger, frustration and embarrassment but I'm afraid it happens so often I shouldn't worry too much about it. But you do don't ya...
I am in a game now. Give me a minute and I'll tell you what I do -- live from the scene.
When I blunder my initial reaction is to resign but I count to ten and then I generally go for an all out attack in the hope of salvaging something from the game. Occasionally this has worked but I must admit usually it doesn't. I always analyze the games that I lose in the hope that I will learn something. Most of my blunders happen when I am tired or not feeling too well and I just haven't spent enough time looking at the position. Knight forks always seem to get me.....:-( Mind you if none of us made mistakes there'd be an awful lot of drawn games!!
i like freak out and i like fall on the floor, but only when im on a loseing streak which i am right now.
Let me guess ... it was a timed game?
With all due respect, welcome to the falibility of being human.
Dealing with the blunders ... learn from them.
Well, try to get through it. Make up for it later.
I usually say to myself: "Ok, you have lost. Now all you have left is to play those only moves." I take a deep breath and go on.
Here is an example of my game which was one big mistake from the 3rd move.
ivanchuk too overeacts to loses after a blunder.....
so dont worry when our idol does that we can do it too...
so just kick the pillar with all your might..><
i just tell myself 'compared to the last time this isnt so big and too soon afterall!!
I missed a mate in 1 in a recent blitz game I played and dragged it out for I think about 10 more moves!
