I've owned both and I prefer dogs. I  have found them to be more loyal and friendly.

I would love to have a dog but you have to give him a walk twice a day and pick up the poop. However they can be a good sentinel against intruders as they do alarm you.

Nevertheless, we have our 4th cat, all the others died, and we like her very much, it is a stray cat ,her name is Frisky and daytime she sleeps all day on my wife's lap and at night she sleeps by my feet.

I think that both animals deserve a place in our home so why not have both?

Definitely cats, they are a much cleaner animal also they do their own thing; where as a dog you have take it out a cat just goes out itself mostly. An cats can see in the dark better how wicked is that ! Laughing

I've had many of both.

Cats.  Very much cleaner and require almost zero maintenance.  Cheaper to feed too.  Quiet, peaceful and playful.

Dogs.  Must exercise them, clean them, pick up their leavings... they're noisy too.

Yeah, dogs are more loyal, but who cares, it's not like you're marrying your dog.

Dogs seem to be more friendly, but again, if I want friends, I go see real friends.

Cats for me.

Cats have great patience when hunting their prey. They are like assasins. While dogs just barking at their prey and make them run :) But both dogs and cats are cool ;)

dogs are for people that go on jogs and are active and cats are for people that stay indoors most of the time or that dont lead very active lives ( no offense to cat owners because there are exceptions)

Cats bury their own faeces.  That's a clear win for cats.

My son's cat likes to beat up on dogs, all dogs. He has tried to kill our beagle, twice.

I am definitely a vote for cats.  Dogs can be ok, I guess but cats are better because they are independent, inquisitive and clean.  Cats are NOT lazy.  They are regal and dignified while dogs are always looking for approval.  Can a dog get away with climbing up it's owner's back?  Can you leave your dog with food and water and a litter box for a few days and come back to a house not in major upheaval?  Oh, and cats have really cool scratchy tongues and when they lick you they aren't all slobbery.

"To have a balanced life you need a dog to adore you and a cat to ignore you."

not sure who said that but i think it holds true...on a side note I prefer cats, but I want both.

Dogs.  I'd vote for my dog before I'd vote for most of my relatives.  Cats?  Fuggetaboutit....

dogs are better than cats for science experiments b/c they act so predictably.  Cat are more clever and thus harder to control.  Depends what you value, dogs are more loyal, cats are more clever.

Dogs have masters to whom they are loyal.

Cats have staff.
