As a Platinum member on chess.com, I can give away one year of free Gold membership to a member of my choice. I have decided to offer this as a prize for winning a 100-player tournament.

Visit the tournament page here: http://www.chess.com/tournament/win-gold-membership-on-chesscom.

You must be a NON-PREMIUM member to participate in this tournament.

You will have ONE DAY ONLY to play each move.

Sign up quickly while seats are still available... I will be launching the tournament as soon as we have 100 non-premium members signed up.

Good luck to all of you!

This is a good idea, but I do not have the skill at this point.

To willisl0 - the best way to learn is to go up against players with a little more experience. Worst case scenario, you'll play 8 games in Round 1 without advancing. Best case scenario, you'll meet opponents whom you can actually beat! If I were you I would give it a shot...

i dont think this is working too well. im quite surprised, myself, that more people haven't leapt on this opportunity. there are just too many places to fill up - if at all possible, id recommend making the tournament smaller.

Maybe a bit offtopic, but what happens if people use an engine to get a good opening and then continue off by themselves?

The opening is the part you shouldn't need a computer for.

Correspondence tournaments are based on the number of correspondence games played, and according to your statistics you only have 2... Sorry, I have no way of setting the tournament based on the number of live chess games played.

Or maybe use an engine every other move. Or only use an engine for moves 10-20. It's hard to prevent it. If you say anyone who makes some engine-correct moves cheats, then strong players will be "caught" as well.

In order for us to get 100 participants I need each and every one of you to talk about this tournament - in your groups, with the opponents you are playing against, and on the forums you post in. The faster we fill seats, the closer you will be to winning your Gold membership!!

So far, 71 people have signed up to play in this tournament. Of these, 22 are already premium members (2 silver, 19 gold, 1 platinum). While I hate to be tough, I am going to have to remove these people from the tournament.

The point of this tournament is to award the prize to someone who does not already have premium membership. See the tournament description:

"You must be a NON-PREMIUM member to participate in this tournament. Any premium members who sign up will be removed before the tournament starts. This is not personal in any way, so please do not be offended. It just makes sense given the nature of the prize..."

    Ciao - Rob
