YouTube Tryouts!

Sort:
News

Think you have what it takes to provide entertaining, educational commentary while playing live blitz games?

Here's your chance to prove it!

If you don't already, subscribe to our YouTube Channel, check out some of IM Danny Rensch's latest Bullet Brawl and Live Blitz Session videos to see what we mean!

Other popular YouTube Channels that include examples of what we want can be found here:

ChessNetwork;

OnlineChessLessons;

ChessExplained;

What are we looking for?

1) Someone who can record their own videos, edit / upload them!

2) No, you don't have to be a Grandmaster to do this! The technical skill to record, and the personality to entertain are the most important factors here.

Yes, there is consistent, *paid* work on the other side of this tryout for the winners!

Let the games begin!

Post the link to your YouTube tryout in this forum thread! Encourage your friends (especially any Expert Level + players) to give it a shot!

Someone out there could become one of the new faces of Chess.com's YouTube Channel!

Does the tryout have to be a blitz game? I don't have time to record one now, but the link is to a Simul I did a while back...a so-so effort IMO, but still. I'm ~2000 OTB btw.

Not sure my somewhat dry humor would go over well xD

"The unemployed chess addict" Ep.1 Chess.com's open audition

What some would call unemployed i call "trial retirement". I spend my days pirating wifi so i can get my fix of online chess. My favorite website is chess.com and when they announced open auditions for their YouTube channel... i got on it like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Unfortunately my computer is so old the power supply came with a pacemaker. Sorry about the lag but i hope the commentary provides some compensation. I can easily fix it for future episodes I just gotta talk my wife into cranking the hand crank on the video card. Im telling ya my computer is so old my dad thought it was a microwave! ~enjoy~

FM Eric Rodriguez and NM Ernesto Alvarez are the ROOKFELLAS.

We have been doing these videos for our own entertainment for a while!

Are we good enough to be on the coveted chess.com staff??

I think I could only do it if your audiance was players rated below 400.

Disclaimer: I find playing Live Blitz with running commentary is difficult and most of my games are played with guest players or players rated somewhat under me.  Also, I have not played blitz online for a couple years.

Made this video today for this thread.  Sorry for being ugly :)

Greetings, this is very entertaining. I love the idea of youtube tryouts, and I'm enjoying the submissions Laughing

I am a National Master with a decade of experience teaching chess privately and in schools. I also do online educational videos outside of chess.

Here is my youtube entry. It's a very straightforward screencast that I put together for the tryouts, but I do light video editing for my job aready. I can easily include chess.com watermarks, intros, outros, etc. I hope you enjoy the game and comments. I had fun Tongue Out

Portland Chess Shop used to make some quality stuff for YouTube. I like KingsCrusher & Daniel King's PowerPlay Chess best. Glad to see chess.com is finally addressing their deficiencies in the vlog arena. Hope it's not already too late. Gotta mention Mato Jelic too - his stuff is great too. Thanks for reading.

How do you even make a chess video on youtube?

MJ4H

I recommend a program called oCam.  It is very easy to use.  Then you just create an account on youtube and click upload.
