very darn easy
I think mate in 2 is better(and possible1.Qh6) than mate in 3.
1. Qh6 leads to ... Re1#
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!
Oh, I am so stupid! Went for 1.Rxg7+ Kxg7 2.Qg5+ Kh8 3.Qf6+ Kg8 4.Rg3+ Qg4 5.Rxg4#
which is a total blunder, because I didn't solve it in 3!
me too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that wus hard BUT I WIN
It's a sunday puzzle.
It would surely be nice to have things all lined up like that in a game.
Better Sunday puzzle than usual.
Absolutely. When I saw the puzzle, I was wondering whether it actually was Sunday or not...
? mate in 2:
followed by QG7 or QH7 deppending on response
Otherwise yes, but black is first after 1...Re1#.
Yep, that's right as Prince_roman wrote. And also if the black didn't have the rook lined up, opponent can also extend the game by just moving Qd4.
nice, but it could be mate in 4. the king could move 2...Kg8 3. R g3+ 3...Kh8 4. Qg7++ and its also mate
I don't get it.
After 1. Rxg7+ Kxg7 2. Qh8+ ... , 3. Qxh7 will be checkmate whether black moved 2. ... Kg8 or 2. ... Kh8. Why would white delay it with 3. Rg3+ Kh8, Qg7# even if black moved 2. ... Kg8. ?
A more interesting analysis is -- What if black moved 1. ... Kh8? Then it would be mate in 2 ... 2. Rxh7# (zman1234 showed this in his analysis in an early comment).
too easy, could've been done without sacrificing the rook..
I don't know what you mean, could you explain this?
If you mean the move Qh6??, this would lose, because Re1# .
Qg5 does the job just as well
Well, 1. Qh6 certainly leads to a quicker checkmate - FOR BLACK!
1, Qh6 Re1#
Yes, it is a good pattern to know. Sometimes even simple things are easily overlooked.
