This reminds me of R. Paul's chess opening of the "Giuoco Pianissimo" (Italian for Quietest Game).  His opening favors a slow strategical grassroots battle by gradually building up tactical opportunities to take advantage of his opponents as they shy to the left (side of the board, since this is where many played at the time due to fads in the chess world).  Then, by constantly applying pressure and remaining true to the slow paced (but honest) strategy, checkmate soon follows after a solid finisher.
