Kf7 allows black to go Nd6+ and get Bishop on b8 and control that diagonal for awhile white can still get checkmate but he has to watch out. Baloney and cheese anyone?
1. K to F7 wins the game. If the knight doesn't move, its taken by the king then next move for white is KC7 for checkmate. Why move the king all around the board chasing a pawn that will never queen?
Absolutely, I was really surprised to see the next 3-4 moves.
i give up
very interesting
Alright, I must eat some humble pie. You're right thisguyheisaguy, the line above does lead to a forced mate for white, and it appears that any line involving 1. Kf7 Nd6+ 2. Nxd6 Bb8 leads to a forced mate for white. So I hope you and your chess engine will accept my sincerest apologies. And it appears that 2...b5 leads to mate as well because white can force black to trade off his bishop for the d7 knight and then queen.
My thanks go out to thisguyheisaguy, for defending my line in my absence; and also to you elzoido238, for your openmindedness....
A big welcome to you DJHeilke =] I'm just so staggered by the fact that people still want to argue about it after all these pages of evidence!
