Am I missing something? 1:Qb2, Qxa5. Black rook is defended while bishop is opened up and c3 pawn is threatened. Why would black exchange a queen and a rook for a pair of rooks and no real improvement in position?

Rory, Qxa5 is certainly better than the way black played, though black is still in trouble after QxBb7. As with previous studies, the best moves are not always played, but rather moves that illustrate a particular theme. Then it is up to the rest of us to provide the alternative lines that may be an improvement. Here are some lines...
