The key transition in the game occurs at move 4. Instead of living with being down simply a pawn, black makes an error in judgment and attempts to stay equal by 4. ... Bxe4?? Instead, black could make it a bit more interesting with 4. ... Bd6 or Rfe8 attempting to momentarily exploit white's weak back rank. It will probably be short lived because white can defend it easily by a dark bishop move off the back, but at least black will only be down a pawn with interesting center play, instead of a whole piece and hopelessly lost.
