Another instance where knowing it is a daily puzzle and we should look for a Queen sacrifice is the best clue available.
The strong threat against my king was another clue - look for an immediate check.
I first wanted to move 1. Qc7+ followed by advancing my pawn to d8. Daily puzzle rejected that, and rightfully so. I didn't have a spare tempo to advance the pawn. Black could answer with a devestating attack on g2. (I might be able to defend it with Qg3, but my attack would be hopelessly busted. Surely no mate in five).
So, look for a Queen sacrifice that leads to repeated checks -- lo and behold, Qxa7+ fits the bill perfectly. After that it is quite straight forward.
Still, I want to go back and see just how it might work out if I continued with Qc7+. I'll post again after checking out some continuations from that.
intriguing manuevering of the Bishop.
Would be much, much better if I didn't know that I'll have to sacrifice my queen as usual.
5 or 6 with no Q sac.
Q sac once again.....
sac that queen !
nice sacrifice, and good pressing to mate!!!
You are right though this was more a sacrifising puzzle on 4/1/12 Wednesday
good puzzle, very easy though.
Easy and great..
At the risk of sounding repetitive: There should be loads of puzzles out there that don't involve queen sacrifices. Seriously, I don't even have to look for the first move anymore, saccing the queen is an automatic first move. Doesn't sound very much like chess to me?
I agree with Drecon, because in a real chess game these kinds of positions that involve queen sacrificing are extremely rare.
Smooth Icee Kool sequence. And the IceQueen is supreme again in death.
bien... directo.. gracias..
nice and easy
