Wow - 9 pages of comments and the puzzle has been up less than half an hour

I had to ask for help on the first move.  The rest were easy.  Brilliant first move, though in retrospect it is obvious.  But I never found it.

Um, this was yesterdays puzzle, so its been up for 1 day and a half hour.

wait a second......... can't the black castle?? O-O??

An excellent use of the Clearance tactic.

In response to the above post, no, black can't castle because his king is on the d8 square. So? The king starts at e8, which means it must have moved sometime before, and thus forfeited the right to castle.
