Also, if you have a question about "OMG why didn't the black queen take the white queen on move two", then you might want to consider playing it out yourself before asking:

    Thank you for the explanation!

    In my quick visual calculation 2...Ng6? better is 2...Qxg3 3.hxg3 Rxf1+ 4.Kh2

I like this puzzle, it has good tactics and only one real line of play for white to prevent black checkmating or gaining sufficient material gain to even things out.
I must admit I had problems with this, I tried to find checkmate for white.

Maybe, next time add White to play and win or sufficient material gain for amateurs like me Smile

    Tips before being frustrated...

    1) Daily puzzles aren't only based on checkmates; they can be based on any tactics from forks (for sacrifices, forced mate) to pins (the bishop looking at a queen to a king).

    2) Please do not assume that no prompt assumes mate and it isn't.

    3) DO NOT NOTE THAT ALL PUZZLES ARE BASED ON A SACRIFICE!

I had problems finding the solution, not problems with the puzzle!

Remember, if 2...Qxg3 the threat of Bxf7# !  It's  now protected by the rook on f1.

The choice for black is stark - lose your queen or the game.

I like not knowing if the object is to mate or just win material - it adds to the challenge.

       Regards to all.

Agreed, nice to have a puzzle without a queen sac...less and less of those these days, I find, as the complaints mounted. Tactical and not necessarily one that jumped out at me. Charming.
