That was easy enough. Almost felt like a sunday.
Great, interesting puzzle for a Monday - hope they get progressively more difficult through the week
I don't get this puzzle. Why would white take the rook? It's like the worst possible move. How about this variation?1...Rxe2 2. Qc8+ Qxc8 3. Rxc8+ Kxc8 4. Bxg7
It's still winning for black, but at least it's not an instant mate.
I suppose the idea is that, since your line leads to a routine endgame win for Black with an exchange and a couple of pawns advantage (that's instantly resignable at any decent level of play unless you've got clear compensation for the deficit), the main line shows why White has to just suck it up and eat the massive material loss.
Mate in two
2 decent puzzles in a row, and this on Sunday and Monday. Excellent! Have enough people complained about the long run of lame, super easy puzzles that chess.com decided to improve things? I hope so!
very easy... thanks...
nice puzzle and first try this time:)
Easy puzzle...must be sunday somewhere in the world still.
Also I like the new format. The "First" comments take up less space and looks like less spam to me.
great way to a checkmate
kalecgos91's line above is even better, but assuming white takes the rook, white should block with the queen after Bxd4+. It loses queen for bishop, but prevents immediate mate.
Agreed. White would never take the rook, white would redirect the Black queen off that diagonal and give up some material to take the fangs off Black's attack. Strange, usually the puzzles offer the best moves on both sides.
Nice, didn't even need to have a do-over for once!
simple but good.
nice puzzle and nice update
