Some nice analysis but on 1. Rxe6+ fxe6 2. Bg6+  hxg6 3. Qxc7 is stronger because it wins the queen rather than just the knight. And after 9...Kc7, 10. Ba5# saves several moves.

Yes.  You're correct.  The puzzle stopped at 9. bxa8Q+ because that is where the actual game ended.
