usually these puzzles are well thought out, but i seem to see another mate in 5, is there anything wrong with:
not saying that this puzzle isn't well thought out
So there were basically two mates. However, the "smothered mate" is the more beautiful one!
I think this works too:
1. Qe6+ Kh8 2. Nf7+ Kg8 3. Nd8+ Kh8 4. Qe8+ Qf8 5. Qxf8#
*and you don't sacrifice your queen this way
-oh, everyone else already noticed the second solution, so nevermind...
Except it was really frustrating to see the alternative and then have software refuse to move it! :-P
why didnt the king move to h6 instead of h8 when he was put in check in move 3
Classic smothered mate! I'm still waiting to get this kind of mate in a game!
Study it harder next time. He can't go to h6, he's not jumping two squares. Over his pawns.
You're correct. That's the solution I found too.
this is mate in 3
Someone with a name like mine doesn't have problems solving this type of puzzle. lol
yay!! first try!!
"smothered mate" :) classic
