    I had the same idea, but then I was brought to realise that the black king wasn't obliged to go to the corner, and if it goes Kf8 instead, there are no useful checks anymore.

    And yet another one that doesn't see what happens after Kf8..

    Checkmate by the white queen is a "useful check"

    this is the mate i saw in my head, but i didnt see the other one...
