    great puzzle.

I need a favor: Would someone please explain to me the point behind making 9 empty posts, like writing 9 nine times in 9 different posts or some such odd and silly use of a space that essentially belongs to everybody.

I know that chess players are normally smart; but smart people are not immune to mental illness.  Perhaps some members should be forced to take their meds before visiting the site.

OF course if there is a deep, hidden meaning to all of this then I will visit a psychiatrist myself.  I think you have to repeat things many times fro no reason.  That is my personal opinion myself. My persaonal opinion, myself, myself, mice elf, mice elf, myself, mic elf, myself, ice elf, myself, my meds..read nine times I am too tired muce elf, mice elf..

"Great u solved it, but you didn't list all the possible variations...the white king can actually go to two squares...Kh3 or Kh4 without being mated in two (with 3. Rg8+ Kf4  4. Bh6++)as after Bxc5 any any all legal moves in the position by white lead to Rh1++...white doesn't have to take back with his/her bishop.

So how many 3 move mating variations are there....still counting. Actual game went 3. Rb8+ Kf4 4. Bh6++. I was hoping he would have played the best defense with Kh3 or Kh4 (though he was lost anyhow).

PS: By the way the white king can't go to h2 after my Rb8+ as you listed in the (much abbreviated solution)

PSS: I'm simply amazed at the reply posts which state they found the puzzle easy as no one did as I asked and listed the (massive list) of 3 move variations leading to mate in 3 by black! I'm still counting all possible three-move variations myself which makes this chess puzzle a "pain in the arse" to "properly" solve by listing all 3 move mates in the position (required for any mate-in-? puzzle)...easy?

Double check your notation, I've included the variations that you've mentioned, plus a lot of the moves you've mentioned are simply not possible, nor a check (ie 3. Rg8+, 3.Rb8+).  The black King is on d7, rooks can't get to those squares, and they wouldn't be checks anyway.  And of course white didn't have to take the bishop, no matter what, 3..Rh8# is coming.  And the King DOES has 3. Kh2 as an option after 2. Kh3 Nf2+.  Again, double check your notation.

    Okay,

I made some typo in my updated post and they are now corrected...but you still haven't solved the mate (its a massive list...you are required to complete the list of ALL POSSIBLE VARIATIONS leading unto a 3 move mating net in the position) and this 3.Kh2 as an option after Kh3 Nf2+ is not in the 3 move  mating combo...so would YOU please check your notation.

The mate is solved.  Why wouldn't it be in the mating combo?

It falls under the line after 2. Kh3

Black's best move is to followup with 2...Nf2+

    3. Kh2 is one of the options to run to the ground.

    Why... what's YOUR answer after 2. Kh3?

All the possible variations are covered.  If you think I missed any, I'll point out where the line is.

    1. ... Rg1+ 2. Kh3 Nf2+ 3. Kh2 Rg2#

    1. ... Rg1+ 2. Kh3 Nf2+ 3. Kh4 Rg4#

    1. ... Rg1+ 2. Kh3 Nf2+ 3. Kh4 g5#

    1. ... Rg1+ 2. Kh3 Bxc5 3. Bxc5 Rh8#

    1. ... Rg1+ 2. Kh4 Bxc5 3. Bxc5 Rh8#

*** 3. Bxc5 can be replaced with any and all legal moves by white.

Somebody please repost the proper list of mate-in-3 black to move with an completed diagram solution to this puzzle.

    3. Rg1+ Kh2 is impossible (illegal move) So what are you talking about?

    Omg, are you that dense??

First of all, the WHITE rook can't move to g1.  You probably are thinking in your head 1...Rg1+ 2. Kh2, which WOULD be illegal.

    I've told you TWICE that 3. Kh2 follows 2. Kh3 Nf2+ (NOT after the first move 1...Rg1+)

Wow your ability with notation sucks.

    CaissaGod wrote:

Here's the answer as I can tell after Rg1+:  Kh3 or Kh4 both lead to Bxc5 and then white can commit any legal move followed by Rh8++ checkmate...you have 2 variations of mate in three as Rg1+ Kf4 is mate in two...and after Kh3 or Kh4 you have Bxc5!...now any legal move by white leads to Rh8++ checkmate....so again I ask you...how many 3 move mates in the position are there (its a massive list of all whites possible moves after Bxc5!!!!!!

That's what I'm trying to tell you.

After Kh3, then 2.. Nf2+ works just the same to get mate-in-3.  You said to list ALL the variations, not just Bxc5.  It's obvious that Bxc5 leads to Rh8#.

The mate-in-2 after Kf4 is already listed on the diagram, look at it again.

Listing all of white's legal moves after Bxc5 is dumb.  Everyone knows that Rh8# follows.

So, there's like 5 variations to mate-in-3 with black to move and that's not counting all white possible replies after Bxc5...so I think you didn't list all 5 mate-in-3's in this diagram solution...and I think my puzzle with 5 variations to list as the answer is awesome compared to a 2 or 3 variation answer to your typical chess puzzle.

Okay yes I see the Rg1+ Kh3 Nf2+ Kh4 Rg4++ checkmate, but its only one of many 3-move variations leading to a 3move checkmate in the position....the question was for you to list all the solution to the mate not just 2 or 3 lines...that's what make this chess puzzle unique and complicated which is why I posted it and you have not listed all the possible 3 move mates by black in the position...which is why I see your density for not "technically solving the problem"

Fair enough.  I've given black's moves to get mate-in-3 given white's possible responses.  If you're asking to list all the legal white moves after Bxc5, then that's just dumb.  It's implied that Rh8# follows all of those.

I thought throwing in Nf2+ to show you an alternative was good enough,  but having a multitude of legal moves by white, when ALL of them lead to the same Rh8# doesn't make a puzzle complicated.  Black's response is unchanged after all those moves, that makes it a simple puzzle.

Prativa, your puzzles are extremely flawed.

    Please stop spamming.

One of your puzzles involved instant mate for the opposing team.

Exactly, the white rook can't move to g1.  That's why I thought it was dumb that you listed that he could.  Look at your post.

You're the one that put that the white rook moves to g1, that that the black king moves to h2. Not me.  Again, learn your notation.
