    a more interesting finish would have been, if black played 2 ............g5, white would play pxp (ep), mate.  It must be quite unusual for en passant to lead to mate.

    Yes, this looks vaguely familiar - I know of a game (in a book I haven't time to look up just now) that ends that way. I posted it some time back so if you really want you can search my posting history. Laughing

    very neat.  It seems black makes things easy by 1. ... Kh6 (in line for an easy discovered check), but with the knight at g5 and the pawn at e5, that is the black king's only escape square.  1. ... Kh6 is forced.
