Easiest mate in 6 I've ever seen.
really interesting, nice one
Queen sacs get old
This is a mate in 7, not a mate in 6!!
not pretty hard.It is a mate in 7 though.
It's a mate in 6, check the previous comments...
The first move was very hard to find and the rest was easy. The same old smothered mate.
Yes - ye olde classic smothered mate - except the first move was sort of easy, because it was an immediate check.
Actually, the queen sac on move 5 would be "very hard" if we hadn't seen it - and the smothered check with the knight - so often before.
EDIT-But now I am wondering -- If Black had played 2. ... Re6, would that not delay the checkmate to "mate in 7" - spoiling White's chance to meet the puzzle requirement? How would White get mate-in-6 if Black played Re6 after White captured his Queen?
But now I see it:2. ... Re6, 3. Qxe6+ Kh8, 4. Nf7+ Kg8, 5.Nd8+! Kh8 6. Qe8#
By the way, If Black moved to f8 instead of to h8 when in check by the White queen, Queen to f7 would be checkmate with the white knight at either g5 or at h6 or at d8.
traditional smothered mate. I always enjoy it.
smother mate rules
Again! A queen sacrifice! As soon as I started this puzzle I had a feeling that there would be a queen sacrifice because in almost every puzzle there is a queen sacrifice!
Can someone tell me why this puzzle is mate in 6? When I looked at it I saw this variation. Looks like black can last 7 moves.
3. Rxe4 Re8 4. Rxe6 Rxe6 5. Qxe6 (if 5... Kh8 6. Qe8#) (if 5...Kf8 6. Qf7#)
Beautiful puzzle! I got it first try but was kinda stuck on move 5 which led to an epic smothered mate
I think forcifer is right. Still nice pattern, for old beginners like me, who've not seen something like this before.
I like it
I lost it at the queen sac. There's something in most player's heads that can't see beyond that. I've got to improve in this area.
Nice Mate!!! =)
Thanks. Queen sacrifice is always hard for me to see. <I wanted to comment about reading all the posts, but what's the point?>
