i would of turned my pawn to a queen yes!
badgeir
i have a couple of observations and suggestions
with regard to the nature and character of this puzzle
1 why not challenge me to checkmate black in under X number of moves
and then let me go about my own tactical process
instead of correcting every single move
as though there is not more than one way to skin a cat
it just might be possible that i have a quicker solution
than the creator of the puzzel
2 why on earth should i exchange my pawn for a rook
instead of a queen
which the computer insisted was the "correct" move
not allowing me the superior peice
and a quicker end to the game
3 the puzzle itself was a good one
but the computer format of this puzzel and others like it
is stifling to rather than encouraging creativity
if you exchange your pawn for a queen, the game is a draw, because black has no legal moves. thats why you choose the rook.
very smart puzzle though
like to see another one like this! 0:)
yesterdays was alright I guess
im still learning chess tactics but why wouldn't you turn the pawn into a queen?
because that leads to a draw. the king can't capture the h-pawn, so black has no legal moves.

Really Impressive !! Two under promotions and a sacrifice !!!
i reckon
couldn't black have forced a stalemate by instead of 8. ...h4, continuing to move the king between h3 - h4 and g4, simply not capturing the rook? and if white chooses to capture the pawn, simply "locking in" with pawn to h4.
true
