This requires some thinking. First two moves held me up. Like some others I tried 1.Bf6+ as the most likely first move but taking the bishop isn't the best response - both result in forced mates. Rather, wouldn't black play 1...Kg8 - what does white do then ?
1.Rxb8 is best beyond question because  it pins the black rook on that 8th. rank if black plays a different line of defense with 2.Bf6+ leading to mate in a couple of moves.

The blocking move by the bishop is inspired & strips black of it's ability to defend both the back rank & g7 at the same time.

And all this was done in a real game - Wow !

was not expecting a non-mate puzzle since that has been the trend.  at first i didn't see how the block was useful, but on further analysis I see how the mates are achieved.

    Interesting puzzle indeed.

Very nice indeed!  Worthy of a Saturday puzz.  I saw the rook exchange, but the bishop had me trying a lot of things before I nailed it.  Educational, cutting off a line.  Thank you.
