if 3. ... exf4, then 4. Qg7#  or 4. Qxf8#
if 3. ... Q sacrifices at g3 or g2 or h1 or f2  it will be an easy checkmate for white.

On 1. Rxb8 Rxb8 2. Bf4 Rf8 3. Qe7 Rg8 not 4. Bxe5+ but 4. Qf6+ Rg7 5. Qxg7#.

In your line 3...Qxf4 (the most delaying move for the inevitable) allows immediate 4. Qg7#.

The line i was looking at for a while was...

1 Bf6+...R or Qxf6

2Qxf6+...remainding Q or Rxf6

3Rxb8+...Q or Rf8

5Rxf8#

Which is a good line in that situation though the black king has a chance to escape on...

1bf6+...Kg8

In that position i still think white is better but does provide an out for the black king.

I mistakenly thought 1. Bf4 was the answer because I had thought it saved time by not exchanging rooks first.  I now see that 1. Bf4 Rxb1 2. Qe7, while threatening to checkmate, allows 2...Rxf1+.  However after 3. Kxf1 Qxd3+ 4. Kg1 black shortly runs out of checks and will then be checkmated.  So it appears 1. Bf4 works also but takes longer.  Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
