Nice puzzle but it wasn't too hard; nice to know about the rook and discovered check. Finding the first got me the second.

Given black's threat of ...Qxc2# white has many moves to consider, some defensive, some checking black's King. To check black's King, we must move the Knight from d5. Lots of tempting options here. 1.Nxb4+ defends the threatened c2 square and checks the black King.It also further nullifies ...Bd5 as an effective response to the discovered check. But black can interpose his Rook or move his King, and his advanced a-pawn is still a huge threat that will probably win the game (by capturing the Knight at b3).
White also has two double check options with his d5 Knight:
1. Ne7++ looks pretty good. It threatens black's g6 pawn if Black responds 1. ... Kh8. But black can move 1. ... Kg7 and interpose his Rook after 2. Qe5+ or escape to f6 after 2. Qh6+. Certainly not a mate-in-2, and a win for white becomes doubtful.
But, lo and behold, 1. Nf6++ not only forces black King to move to g7 or to h8, but protects the Rook on the h-file when he moves in for checkmate at h7,
