    That was my initial thought as well, but after 2.f4+ black has 2...Kd4!, and there seems to be no quick enough mate. For example, 3.c3+ Kd3 4.Nf2+, and the king still has 4...Kc2.

    After 2...Nxd4 or 2...Qxd4 white can give immediate checkmate by 3.f4#.
