tricky... Undecided the sacrifice of the rook to obtain the fork of the queen and king. sacrificing key pieces in the end game is tricky, but if it yeild the opponents coveted queen, by all means. good puzzle!

Cool.  Despite all those places to move, Knight can fork 'em all, so Queen has to take.

I'm missing something here. White plays P-e3+,  K-e4. Why? Surely K x g4 wins a pawn and prevents the Knight fork and also threatens Q-g3+....

no its not!

kxg4 is followed by Ne5+, which loses very fast.

1. e3+ Kxg4 2. Ne5+ Kh4 3. Nf3+ Kg4 4. Rg5# is the path.  Of course, black could trade a knight for a queen to stop it (2. ... Qxe5 3. Rxe5 and 2. ... Kf5 (or Kg5 or Kh5) 3. Nd7 (or Nc6) wins the queen next turn).  Of course, we'll all agree a rook is stronger than a knight, correct =D?

Zachariah_carlson understood it!   Look at all the places the queen can go.  Either the rook, knight, or pawns would take it right away, or the knight would fork the king and the queen.  Black decided white not having a rook would be better than white having a rook =D.  Care to rethink your decision, ChessInsane?
