I don't know what "KN3 check to white" means, but here are the four possibilities:

1. Nh5 gxf5 is the puzzle
1. Nh5 Nf2+?? 2. Kh2 (2. Kg1?? Ng4 3. Kany NxQ) and black is in the same predicament (2. ... Ng4+?? hxg4 and black drops the knight without accomplishing anything).
1. Nh5 Qf6?? 2. Nxf6+ Kh8 3. Qxh7#
or:
1. Nh5 anything-else 2. Qg7#

The puzzle is fine.

Can someone explain why  black doesnt  check the king with nf2 insted of taking the knight?
