Why Nf6+ and not RxG7+ in the first move?
This has been a truly great puzzle to remind the many, many non-solvers to look around the board before moving. Actually it is very instructive without being clever. We need more of these for the early learners.
Why bother with the knight. Why not just Rxg7?
WHY IS EVERYONE ASKING ABOUT 1-RXG7?!?! READ THE COMENTS BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS, IT'S PINED, NO CAN DO
I failed to see the need for 1.Nf6+. Simply 1.Rg7+ Kh8 2.Rh8+ Kg8 3.Rcg7#.
Am I missing something?
King would be in check.
Thank you, and I thought I knew how to play this game called chess.
