I played a 5+0 game on FICS with a funny endgame. We reached a Q+R endgame with a long pawn chain and my opponent won a pawn. He traded Rooks and then forced a Queen trade, but when I saw he could force the Queen trade I got an idea. I managed to reach a probably drawn K+P endgame a pawn down, and my opponent misstepped and turned it into a loss. The ratings are FICS blitz.

In the variation with 41. ... h6, how about 45. ... Kf6 (instead of 45. ... Kh5) intending to go Ke5 next. If 46. Kf4 h5 and white has to give way.

True, I missed that. I'll have to take a closer look at this later, but I have to go in a minute.

44... Kg7 seems like it ought to win.  If 45 Kf3 gf.

I can't find anything to do against either one of those. I guess I was very wrong about a "probable draw"... Sorry for wasting your time.

Don't take it like that, Sir...no interesting position (and it was one) is ever a waste of time.
