How to mate with queen + king vs bishop and king?

I'm totally new to chess, and I just ended up in this position - how should I have won? I got bored before I figured it out, but I assume it's possible?

Pretty much like a K v K + Q endgame. Try to make your king stay on the opposite colored squares from the bishop just in case.

Like neneko said , keep your king off the same coloured squares as your opponents bishop . Here is an example. It's an easy victory .

    This could be very frustrating especially when you are new to the game like you said.

Try creating a boundry for the king on Qh4 and then move your king until you get to

Kf4. That way, you can separate the king from the bishop and corner the king as you decrease the boundary space of the black king.

Could take time but it sure is the best way if you want to win without a stalemate. :>)
