Y'know with 4 boards and 2 sets of white pieces, 2 of black? The first person to checkmate a king, take it, and then checkmate the other king wins? Is this an original idea? Does it even sound fun? I think it does.......!

There are plenty of chess variants which use multiple boards. Bughouse and Alice chess are just 2 of them. It may not be an original idea, but it is definitely fun.Smile

Also, wouldn't 2 boards next to each other measure 16 by 8?

I personally like playing on a torus.  Same idea.  Just the pieces move two different ways and there is an ambassador in the game.

I take it that putting two boards side by side is Alice chess?

And Goatllama wants to use four boards instead of two, :p

Ah! I seem to have misread the original post! I do not know any variants which invove 4 boards but only twice as many pieces as regular chess.

OK! Would you please explain to me how the boards interact with eachother so that we can start a game of Goatllama Chess?

On a torus? Like pacman!!! ('<

No, the pieces are in a torus, this is a great idea.

Wel, awesome if you want to try it out! The general rule is that all boards interact with each other of course and castling can be conducted normally once per king, as per normal chess rules. Other than that, first person to capture and then checkmate two kings wins.

I think it would be..... if I could get some playtesters to work out the kinks, that would be great!

Can you please explain in further detail how the boards interact with eachother? And the starting positions?

would it be just like a normal game of chess, but with twice the pieces? like a pawn on the h file of 1st board could capture a pawn on the a file on the 2nd board?

pieces follow the normal rules of chess, but can cross boards? this sounds interesting :o

I would say 5 boards where the 5th would be the battlefield

This is like when i had 12 that i wanted to create some wierd not well elaborated variant of chess... it makes no sense to put more boards when even a GM has had to have a through training to see most of the move variants in one chess game and concequently one board... can you imagine that most of us, who are newbies maybe 1700 elo or a little above, hardly, how would we play? it would be such a dumb game, with one of the sides, the least experimented, blundering 4 times as much as he would on 1 chess board, because he now has to concentrate in 4. besides how would you move?

If your good enogh to play this "goatllama (strange hybrid) chess", youd be better of playing against four persons on 4 different boards, or in any case one board with a opponent your match.

Exactly! Also, instead of four lines in between, it would be eight, making for some interesting openings. The whole point would be pieces like bishops, rooks have much larger ranges, etc. And yes, Greco, you would have to concentrate on the whole situation and be really good. Or you could just have fun and try stuff out instead of instantly putting down someone's idea! Way to naysay!Laughing

That would be four players or at least it would be better if there were four players.......

What do you mean by lines in between? And where would the 2 other boards be? I plan on creating an actual Goatllama Chess game and I need as much detail as possible.

The lines in between = spaces not occupied by pieces. Now that I think about it, the boards would have to overlap to make the unoccupied spaces = 8.

Okay, for placement purposes, B= board

    B    B

    B    B

Like that, except overlap the boards to make it 12 up, 16 across.

Hopefully this is making more sense.......
