I was looking up the Scandinavian Defense on Wikipedia, and a certain variation struck me as odd...

It's called the Patzer variation. Apparently it has recently attracted some interest. Do we have a celebrity in our midst?

A Patzer is a relative beginner and that random check is what I have seen from patzers.  The name works!

it's called the patzer because of the phrase "patzer sees check, patzer gives check"
